This has a lot of little things that Livejournal doesn't, and I don't belive it really has a journal of any kind. I don't really use Facebook either, but it really is what MySpace should have been.
Its an easier way to keep track of friends, particularly the ones who don't use Livejournal.
Seriously. You know of all things... I'm surprised that you don't have AdBlock. Hell, I can give you a text file with all of the ads I've blocked over time.
I never see ads, anywhere, anymore. AdBlock Plus (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865) and it's Element Hiding Helper (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4364) are awesome. Then, head on over to adblockplus.org (http://adblockplus.org/) and get some subscriptions (http://adblockplus.org/en/subscriptions), and you'll forget that web sites even have ads. I know I have, on occasion. You'll wonder how you browsed without it. CustomizeGoogle (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/743) is another ad-busting and privacy-enhancing extension, while we're on the subject.
What I recommended above in addition to the ABP EasyList + EasyElement subscription, plus the privacy-list one on that page work as good if not better than Filterset.G ever did for me, and what's more you don't have the downsides of the Filterset.G updater extension.
When Facebook was originally created, you had to be enrolled at a High School or College and have an email from that school before you could create a profile. Then you could enter in what schools you went to and what classes you're in now, and find people who are in your classes that you might have connections with.
They've since opened it up to compete with MySpace, and I think they've done a good job.
I can't use MySpace it's interface is so bad. I have a profile there, and I've looked up old high school friends, but I don't go there nearly as often as I do Facebook simply because Facebook is so much more of a pleasure to use.
I'm there, but you found me on it already. I mostly like it for being able to play Facebook Scrabble, and for the little Twitter-like updates you get from all your friends. Oh, also for having found a few old friends I'd COMPLETELY lost track of.
*raises paw* i has a facebooks! although my computer doesn't like to load it and i have a bazillion friend requests from everyone festering in the inbox XD
I'm on Facebook. When it was started, you had to be a college student, now it's more open (though you have to have a college email address to join that specific network still) It sucks far less than MySpace, though profile pages are starting to get as cluttered as MySpace with the 3rd party applications that can now be added. But it's a lot cleaner, and no video plus two music things autostarting on each eye-searing page like on MySpace.
