Another day, another needle in the foot!
Jun. 13th, 2003 12:15 amI saw Dr. G yesterday and got another shot of cortisone in my foot. Joy.
At this point, I have a few options available to me:
1. Look into a "stand up MRI"
2. Get more shots of alcohol to try and kill the nerve (sclerosing)
3. Keep wearing my orthotics
4. Acpuncture
#1 is something I definitely want to try. I've had 2 MRIs while lying down before, and neither of them turned up anything. Getting an MRI while standing up would put pressure on the foot (and cause pain) which could be used to figure out if this is indeed a neuroma or capsulitis.
#2 is something my insurance will apparently pay for again. 10 shots in total, once per week. Each shot of alcohol will reduce the nerve's ability to transmit signals until the nerve is finally rendered unable to transmit anymore impulses. This also the benefit of making the nerve shrivel up (atrophy) and making my foot "normal" again. (well, other than the somewhat pinched nerve between the first and second toe, but that's not very painful at all) If I go for this, it will probably be after Anthrocon.
#3 I'll keep doing anyway. I have seen some slow improvement with the orthotics. The left side of my foot has gotten used to having that "bump" on the bottom of it, and when I (rarely) walk barefoot, the pain is just a little less, which I take to be a good sign. Even of the orthotics work, nerves heal SLOWLY. :-\
#4 Acupuncture. This probably won't be covered by my insurance, and I'm not sure how much it can helped pinched nerves, assuming that it is indeed a pinched nerve. Dr. G said it wouldn't hurt if I got it, but he doesn't know any practitioners in the area, either.
Other than that, let's see what else I've done... I've been slowly rewriting Scurry, a GPLed software package of mine. I haven't touched that code in like, 3 years. Coming back to this old code, I've been finding all sorts of ways I can optimize it and make the program more robust. It's kinda scary. :-)
Hey
jouva, remember those cheat codes you gave me for GTA3 last weekend? I was playing with them the other day, and I actually managed to CRASH the game. I was flying along with a tank, and I lost control, doing a death spiral towards the water. As soon as I hit the water, the game just.. froze up. Quite unusual.

Hey
(no subject)
Date: 2003-06-13 11:44 am (UTC)One of the buggiest games I've ever played was Parappa the Rapper 2. Could crash it on a whim. But, I think I've crashed my PS2 (not including PtR2) 4 times total. Fun times...
