An interesting happened with FedEx today. My order from Adagio Teas (who totally rock, BTW) arrived, but the box appeared to suffer a bit of a mishap enroute to the office:

Damaged Package Damaged Package

And by "mishap", I really mean "got completely gutted". To FedEx's credit, they did tape the box back up, and did not lose any of my order. They get cool points for that.

Then I opened the box, and this is what I saw:

Why is there a CD with my tea...?

Huh? I didn't order a CD...

WTF? I didn't order this CD!

Who the hell is Michael Manson? And what is he doing in my tea??

I emailed these pictures to the folks at Adagio, and they were as confused as I was. They didn't put the CD in my order, and have no idea where it came from. The best guess we have is that my box wasn't the only one that got damaged, another box had its contents ripped out, and that CD was put into my box by mistake.

I guess that somewhere, someone is missing their Michael Manson CD...

Whoops. Sucks for whoever was waiting to get that CD... I have no idea who the guy is, though, either.

I know you offered this awhile back, but can you still pass along those $5 Adagio coupons? I was banned from buying more tea for awhile (roommate's orders), but I've finally gone through enough of our collection that I want to try some new things again. We have a grapefruit oolong from Adagio that is AMAZING and I would love to check out some of their other offerings. What have you tried from them so far that you'd recommend? I've never ordered from them, but their site seems pretty impressive.

If you can still do the coupon thing, it's jgockley at gmail. Thanks!

Just sent the certificate, check your Gmail!

Probably the best tea I've had so far is their Citron Green.

I'm still working my way through the samples, and just got another 7 green teas delivered today, so I'll have a better idea of what I like soon.

I also recommend their rating system when looking for teas. There's a large amount of community feedback there.

They're trying to jazz up your tea?

Chris and I will be in the Philly area on Saturday. Would you like to get together with us before we head to the show in the evening? I'm not 100% sure what time we need to head to see Turn It On Again, but Chris says it's close to your place.

What the heck is FedEx doing to the boxes to damage them that badly?!

I just can't see how a box can get that tortured through normal handling...

Hm. I could totally use some new tea to try out. Which sampler did you purchase?

I ordered the Green Tea sampler. It was pretty good. (1 really good tea, 2 average teas, and one not so good tea that had nuts in it. Blech!)

*laughs* Great, I get to step in and try to represent now. At least where I work, when boxes are damaged, broken, opened, or otherwise in need of QA, the operator normally opens said box, inspects a contents list, then re-packages everything. I guess they were in a hurry (happens) and accidentally put the disk in with your order, or it otherwise decided it liked your tea more than its owner's order. Enjoy the tea, and your new mug coaster.

Yeah, that would make sense.

My packing list, however, was on the bottom of the package, with everything else on top of it. I /suppose/ they could have put it back there when done looking at it, but seems unlikely. :-/

looks about right.

I remember shipping a bunch of stuff to sweden maybe ten years ago, and it arrived not in a box, but a garbage bag.

with yellow 'CAUTION' tape all over it.

ok then.

No idea.

But the taste was awful. You definitely cannot brew a cup of tea from a Jazz CD.

He doesn't have a Wikipedia article, but he does have a webpage:
http://www.mikemanson.com/

I've had packages arrive at my house with missing/extra contents before, where damage in shipment appeared to have occurred.

Ooooh! I just listened to his stuff on yahoo music. It's smooth jazz, all instrumental. Sounds like it would go great with a cup of tea :D (I love Jazz, and love the smooth type the most)

Funny. Never even heard of Michael Manson. I have heard of Marilyn though...

And funny how they just randomly send you a cd. I wonder what other package got beat up or destroyed along the way that this disc was supposed to have gone to?
