How to get custom ringtones on a Verizon Motorola Razr v3m phone

Getting new ringtones on your Razr without paying $1.99 or whatever Verizon charges is easy.

Send an email to yournumber@vzwpix.com, with the MP3 as an attachment.

When it arrives on your phone as a PIX message, the file has already been converted to the AAC format, and can be saved with the "Save Sound" choice under the Options menu.

It will now appear in your list of ringtones.

Thanks to this trick, my phone now has Dolph the Fascist Hippo ringtones on it. Guaranteed to confuse friends, co-workers, and family members alike!

I was able to use bitpim for a little while to get some custom ringtones onto my phone, but its incredibly slow, unstable, (I found it) hard to use, and last I checked doesn't work on Leopard.

Getting new ringtones on my Nokia N78 involves connecting the phone to my PC in "USB mass storage" mode and just copying the MP3 over.

Stuff like you describe is kind of why I avoided Verizon.

On the other hand, their excellent customer service more than makes up for that suck. I had two phones die on me over the last few years and had no problems getting them replaced. The second one they even cross shipped to me.

Their "new every two" plan is kinda nice, too.

The same sort of thing works with most LG phones, though there is a limit to the size of the file that it'll allow to be used as a ringtone.

It's not lock in. I can switch to another provider anytime I want.

One reason why I stay with Verizon, as I mentioned above, is because they have very good customer service, especially when phones break, etc.

If I had an SD Card handy. Or cared to get one.

But for just 1 or 2 ringtones, I really don't want to go to all that trouble. I'd rather spend that time reading Furry Art Pile (http://www.furryartpile.com/), ya know? :-)
