So, I was reading Slashdot during lunch today, and happened across this. It seems that NPR has decreed that nobody else is allowed to link to their site, unless they fill out this form to request permission.

Well, golly gee. I'd sure hate to link to them without their permission. God forbid, I might actually direct more traffic to their site. And we all know what that might lead to. That's right, someone might actually buy something from their store, or perhaps find a station nearby. The horror!

I think I'll be sending ombudsman@npr.org a little e-mail shortly, explaining how silly and pointless their policy is...

Actually I think that was taken slightly out of context, but is still a bit pointless when you think about it. They're probably referring to their "content" as being pages within, such as specific news stories. They probably got pissed when some people on SlashDot linked to them and screwed up their bandwidth. Now it just got worse :) But it sure beats just stealing their content and using it without their permission.
