Got coins? How about... 4,500 pennies!
Feb. 1st, 2009 11:37 pmOne of the things I like to do is save my spare change in a container, and every few years go count the change and see how much money I end up with. So I drafted
unclekage to help, and we went to counting...
8,420 coins and $350 or so later... and this is what we came up with:

I figure this should be spending money for Furry Connection North when I go in 3 months.
Oh, and what happened to all of the coins? I sold them to Grandma Kage. I did NOT inquire what plans she had for them.

Date: 2009-02-02 12:19 pm (UTC)I have searched in vain for them here in Winnipeg. Banks don't know what I'm talking about, and neither does anyone else I ask. Handrolling it is. :(

Date: 2009-02-02 04:36 pm (UTC)Nope. But then again, my bank reimburses me for ATM fees--even those charged by other banks. So I think I have a pretty good deal with them.
Kage rolled about half the coins with the "help" of a coin machine. (It was the stuff his stories are made of, really)

And the theme for this year? "Prohibition"

Date: 2009-02-02 01:29 pm (UTC)Heck I would have probably converted everything into Gold Dollars http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/index.cfm?action=golden_dollar_coin
and waded through it on the floor like Scrooge McDuck. :x)

Date: 2009-02-02 04:37 pm (UTC)Um, let's see:
- I don't own a car and the coins weighed somewhere around 50 pounds.
- My bank doesn't offer coin counting that I know of.
- Grandma Kage wanted pennies. Who am I to argue?

Date: 2009-02-03 03:53 pm (UTC)For me there is something oddly satisfying about counting through an enormous pile of change, even if it isn't mine. If it wasn't a 10 hour drive I'd have been around to help in a heartbeat ;)
