Since nobody was really using it, I decided to start tagging relevant items as "furp" on the Delicious bookmarking service:

http://delicious.com/tag/furp (And an RSS Feed, too)

If you are on Delicious (and if you're not, it's free!), feel free to tag anything that pertains to Furp with that tag. I know Furp has been active in the fandom and there are many stories about him from over the years. I sure would love to read some of those stories. :-)

On a related note, I have already been approached by some folks asking about the identity of the Marine who did this. I appreciate the concern and the desire for retribution, but please -- let's give the legal system a chance to do its thing. Right now, our energy is best spent being there for each other, as well as his family.

Thanks.

Well said, re the other driver. I did like the remark on another livejournal that the survior should have to Read all the comment s and stories about Furp. That seems like a bit justice; making Furp live in that man's memory as he will live in other's.

I am a tad concerned how the driver who killed Furp is continually referred to as "the Marine" or how his profession is always associated with him when I don't think that is really an important detail. I hate to see all Marines get roped in with this ass hole.

If you have a better idea for how we should refer to him, I'll all ears. I don't think "that guy" is necessarily appropriate either.

The suspect
The driver
The fuck-tard

There are options.

In my mind, the only reason it's significant is that this Marine has TWO justice systems to deal with now: the civilian justice system (if they've decided to not just turn him over to USMC outright), and the military justice system.

The UCMJ will take care of this guy for sure, especially if he's enlisted.

I was thinking the same thing. How exactly is his profession relevant to this situation?

Just a question, the situation is already tragic enough, and I'm not in it for 'retribution' or anything, but, is there any confirmation on whether or not this other driver was, in fact, intoxicated or not, or whatever the situation/fault/whatever was?

It's not like it makes it any better no matter what it is, but I'm hearing some conflicting things, and, again, while no option is good, it would at least be easier to try to come to terms with whatever is the *correct* set of facts, rather than not knowing which way to go among several...

No idea. I think we'll get a better idea of what the facts are at the funeral.

Furries, man. If they don't have details, they'll make some shit up.

Actually, it came from his employer (http://unclekage.livejournal.com/106551.html).

But hey, thanks for talking trash. We're all in a fine mood for THAT right now.

I don't mean to talk trash. I was joking, and not about Furp, just in case you were going to tell me how insensitive I am.

Oh, okay. Sorry I didn't catch onto that. I've been not my usual self the last day or so.

It's not a problem. If I do seem insensitive, it's because I can't relate to this situation. I've never had anyone close to me die so suddenly. There is more to it, but I'll just leave it at that.

You wouldn't be the first person who has told me that, actually. I've been in that situation before, when others in the fandom have passed.

For me, this is the first in-fandom death of a first-order friend.
