I wanted to see what the Phillies score was just now. So I went to Google and searched for Phillies score.

This was the first search result:

Is that not cool? It gave me the information which I wanted, and saved me from having to go through the mess on mlb.com.

Sweet! Thanks for pointing this out.

I needed another widget to replace the broken GMail one on iGoogle.

And this is the feature that Live.com thinks it needs to make their search as good as google's.

How much do you want to bet MLB will eventually complain because Google is depriving them of advertising revenue that they'd get if people went to MLB.com to get the scores? :)

I'm not too worried. I recall there being a case over something like this in years past involving sports scores. The court ruled in favor of the party copying the scores, stating that the scores were facts and could not be copied.

You do realize that the MLB is probably one of the more litigious parties out there in terms of IP rights...don't you? I mean, you've seen all the running gags on The Simpsons.

I guess it's a good thing that Google is the one doing this, then. They don't seem the type to roll over when it comes to legal pressure.

It would not be beyond comprehension that Google has struck a deal with MLB to get this information. They are the type to have enough clout to do so.

Some IT news media report that this is Google's reaction to Stephen Wolfram's "Alpha".

What that comes online, I intend to ask it why all cheetahs are so submissive.

Either I'll get an interesting answer, or break the site.

Is there anything Google can't do? Yes. Inspire any sort of confidence in me ever since they went public.

Oh, man, I saw an article the other day, which no amount of history-searching is bringing back for me...it was that article you just knew was coming about Google, an inside view of how things have gotten now that they are so big.

It's as if Silicon Valley never learns. Maybe they should rename it Groundhog Day Valley or something.

Is that not cool?

Google does nice things, and they do not-nice things. I don't see one negating the other.
