Yes, I have a Dolph plushie. It's rather big, about 30 inches.

Now the $700 Billion Question (adjusted for inflation):

Could be!

I remember at the last Midwest FurFest, a fursuiter was walking around with a small plushie in his mouth. He would periodically take the plushie out, hand it to someone not in suit, pull out a camera, and take *their* picture.

Duly noted!

Also, have we met at a con before? Your pic seems familiar, but I cannot place it.

I was with Ursula at AnthroCon last year - might have seen me at the Security Debriefing. The Userpic is from the Strip Club Adventure Story line on The Devil's Panties (featuring Ursula and I) earlier this year.

I'll be behind the table with Ursula again this year.

Maybe it's just me but I don't get the Dolph thing. I mean, I "get" it, but I don't see why it's funny.

Seeing as I'm not going to be at AC, I suppose I have no dog in that fight.

I like the "rage" angle (think Denis Leary), as well as the irony factor. Dolph says how he is a Japanese Ninja, etc., yet the character is obese, and trips on a regular basis.

Also, despite the talk of "badass killing machines" such as Chuck Norris, he is secretly a fan of Meg Ryan and Celine Dion when he thinks no one is watching.

Yes, but all the kool kidz like Bill Hicks. I dunno, it's hard to envision believable puppet rage. Especially a blue hippopotamus.

I see a hippo going around bashing shit. I dunno how that translates into dark comedy from a hard-boiled chronic malcontent. Then again I guess that sort of thing might run into a language/culture barrier, so maybe the comedy is primarily visual...?

Well, that's just a video of the violence part.

The comedy part requires you to either know Danish, or know people who speak it and don't mind translating.

Dolph is really only funny in context, and as that context is Danish society, it would be surprising if foreigners would ’get it’ as easily as we do. I think Dolph’s appeal is that he is the polar opposite of the archetypical Dane; we’re imprinted from a very early age by college-educated caretakers in communal kindergartens to be cooperative, tolerant of others, polite, diplomatic and anti-aggressive, and Dolph represents the repressed part of us that really wants to smash things with a baseball bat and yell derogatory things at politicians and famous people (yet at the same time, this ‘avatar’ of Anti-Danishness is a crude, clumsy, ignorant hippo, reinforcing the viewpoint that this behaviour is undesirable to society.)

Dolph can say all the things our collective subconscious mind wants to say but can’t for societal restrictions and not be punished because he’s like a child or dimwit who doesn’t understand the consequences, and his offensive utterances simultaneously shock and delight the viewers. Dolph is very popular, and many politicians and famous people have participated in his show specifically to get yelled at, to the amusement of the Danish public and a soaring of their popularity.

Danish humour is infamous for being nonsensical to foreigners, though, so don’t despair if you can’t see why any of this is funny. ;)

What I always got out of his show was, "See this hippo? Don't be this hippo!"

I wonder, has Poul Krebs appeared on his show?
