Heh. UPSes are definitely my friend.

Other than that, I broke my bank's ATM machine today. I went to make a deposit, and the door on the machine slid open halfway, then it closed again. Then it opened halfway, and closed, and opened and closed a few more times. Finally the machine gave up, spit my card back out, and said "out of service".

Since the bank was still open, I went inside to make the deposit, and told them about the machine. So the head teller dude rebooted the ATM (hee!), but it still had the error after a reboot. His analysis was, "I guess we won't get any revenue this weekend". Oh well, not MY problem. :-)

I had a bad experience with an ATM machine once. I withdrew some cash and asked for a receipt. The receipt came before the cash, so I started reading it, wondering why my balance was so low. While I was staring at the receipt for a few seconds, the machine took the cash back in! On asking the bank, I learnt that this was supposed to be a "security measure": if no one picks up the cash in a few seconds, it should be taken back in. This, however, does not credit your account! Which means that the bank gets to keep the cash unless you complain. Crazy. I had to write a letter to the bank, and after a few days my account showed the amount credited.

ATM machine can be weird. Someone said a lot of the ATM machines in India (where I live) run Windows NT.

Oooh, I gotta try that!

See, I don't think the head teller dude at the bank likes me very much. I once deposited a check through him, and he told me to write my account number on the back of the check. When I asked why, he said, "in case we lose your deposit slip or something". I then foolishy asked, "do you lose them often?". He did NOT like that. :-)

So, for some reason, I have the urge to let the machine eat my money sometime just so I can annoy him again. :-)

Lest y'all think that spotty.spamcon.org is some do-nothing machine, easy to maintain, let me assure you that it's NOT. Doug's done lots of complicated modifications on it over the past year, without having to bring it down. AND it served the SpamCon Foundation's Web site for most of that time.

Congratulations, Doug. Go have a tall one on me. :)

How very commercial of him. Sorry, that kinda just upsets me for some stupid reasons. Like...it's the customers who are inconvenianced, and he's worried about the money that they can't play with over the weekend.

*shrugs*
