Phsyical therapist visit
Jul. 25th, 2002 10:04 pmTonight was my first trip to the physical therapist.
We started by me giving her a history of the problem, explaining when the pain started and how it progressed. She asked me to do some different exercises with my foot to see what the range of motion was, and one thing she had noticed is that my left calf muscle had atrophied to the point where it was visible to the naked eye! This was caused by me walking on a cane for 2 months. My condition had deteriorated to the point where I wasn't going to get better on my own.
As a side note, you know that your condition is pretty severe when the person you are working with calls other people over to take a look at your calf muscles!
Now the good news, everything that happened CAN be reversed through physical therapy. Tonight I had ultrasound done on my foot for 10 minutes, along with a whirlpool bath for 15 minutes, followed by ice for 10 minutes. The two sources of heat promote blood flow to the tissues so that healing takes place, and the ice reduces the inflammation so that I can put my shoes back on when we're done. :-)
The plan is that they'll want me there 3 times a week for a month, then 2 times a week for the next month. Assuming I don't do anything stupid, I should be fully recovered in 2 months. Also, I will get to use weights in future sessions to rebuild my calf muscles, along with some upper body exercise, if I want.
I MIGHT still be on the cane at Feral, I just don't know. However, the amount of pain that I'm in should be a LOT less.
