This comment on Slashdot tells some of the warning signs you should look for if you think the building you work in is about to be closed down. Yes, managers lie. (Assuming they were told the truth by their bosses in the first place, that is.)

Animals have had a monopoly on plushies for too long! http://giantmicrobes.com/ sells plushies of bacteria and viruses! You can order influenza, yeast, streptococcus, or even the common cold!

Rhinovirus

Awwww, isn't he cute?

Over the weekend, I discovered a program called Streamripper. It will download audio streams and save the songs as individual MP3 files on your hard drive. It's nice because I can download streams and then listen to them later. It's a great way to save on bandwidth, too!

[livejournal.com profile] tgeller says I am "the wizard". W00t!

Finally, my "mother" has her own LiveJournal! Hi Mom! :-)

In my Programming I class last year, I was the only freshman in the class, and I already knew BASIC, so I was ahead of all the juniors and seniors in the class. (You have to take about three classes before this one, and I got right in)

Anyway, some of the kids were nicknaming the others. I was 'the wizard'. :P

Reminds me of BASIC 1, which I had in 10th grade. Towards the end of the quarter, Ben (the other student who was acing it) said to me, "Gee, you think we'll have to start actually studying for the tests soon?".

And the (well, a) neat part is that it also sets up a proxy for the stream it's recording, so you can point your mp3 player app to that, and listen to the stream at the same time. (And unlike ye olden days of radio & tape, every track's automagically named appropriately, based on the ID3 tags) Very cool app.

Doesn't look like a SARS plushie would be too difficult. ^_^ Here's a photo of it saying "tube". (http://www.backwoodshome.com/articles2/arnet0305.html)

streamripper ...

Yes, streamripper is really cool.

*But* I'd like to add, that the quality of what you get out is dependent on what station you are ripping from. Often the first few seconds are missing (and tacked at the end of the previous cut); and you can't do much about voice-overs (like when the DJ is commenting on something, or announcing the song ...)

So, if you are picky about that stuff, you need to listen to each song to be sure it isn't missing a few seconds on either end, or has voice-overs. But you can't beat the price ;)

I've had both the FreeBSD port and the M$ Winblows versions working just fine. And the newer version will act as a relay server at the same time it is recording, so that you can listen at the same time as recording. (The older version didn't have that, so far as I could tell).

Your mom is savvy! I just could never get my mom to use a computer, other than to play games of course.

Sue isn't really my mom, per se.

There's a story behind it. :-)
