I went to a meeting of the Philly LInux Users Group group last night and had a pretty good time. The topic for the night was "How (not) to write kernel modules for fun and profit". The speaker explained how writing kernel modules is fairly hard, and how there are alternatives for kernel modules. The the thing he focused on the most was the concept of the LD_PRELOAD environment variable and how it can be used to intercept system calls to the kernel. Very neat stuff.

After the presentation, we did a keysigning, and I got my key fingerprint verified by about 8 people who attended. (I still need to sign their keys and send them back!) Then we proceeded to invade a nearby dining establishment, and had dinner and talked. Not a bad way for me to spend an evening.

I got a nice surprise when I went to the gym today. The building looked a bit quiet. Then, as I got closer, I could see that the power was out! There was a note on the door that they had a sudden power outage that PECO was working on, and they didn't expect power to come back until tomorrow. So I got to head home earlier and get some chores and stuff done.

That's all for now, folks!

[Edit: Forgot to turn on auto-formatting, whoops! All fixed now!]
