Weekend stuff
Feb. 9th, 2004 11:06 amFriday was a fun trip. I drove into western PA to pickup Istas Puma and then we proceeded to drive down to Fox In Boots' place in Maryland to visit him for the weekend. The way down was interesting, as the original route to was to take state roads all the way to his place. However, things got a little weird after I missed a turn we were supposed to make. I followed the highway we were on for another few miles until it ended and after some discussion, I figured, "let's keep driving on this road, we'll hit a state highway sooner or later!". Well, with the fog that we had, and the twisting and turning of the road and the hills, we drove for a good half hour without seeing so much as a single sign for a town or another state highway. Things were starting to get creepy until the road we were finally on ended at a dam on the Susquehanna River. I walked up to the Guard booth and asked the gentleman there if he could direct me to the nearest state road. He answered with, "No problem. Go back the way you came and make a right at the first stop sign". Apparently we were driving parallel to a state highway the entire time, ARGH!
So to make a long story short, we arrived at Fox's place later that night and all was good. One other interesting note from my trip is that on the way there, I stopped at a rest stop on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, got some food, and decided to browse through some of the CDs in their gift shop. Then one CD in particular caught my eye: it was a CD of music from The American Gladiators TV Show which aired in the US during the early-mid 90's. It was a whopping $7.99, so I went ahead and bought it. It turned out to be full of music from the various games in the show, as well as some related songs like Queen's "We Will Rock You". Quite similar to the Jock Rock CDs, actually.
On Saturday, Dark Muzzle drove over and joined us, and we all watched a few movies. I introduced Dark Muzzle to Fight Club (hee!), and we watched a few other movies, such as...
Title: Mom and Dad Save The World
Summary: (See the title!)
Synopsis: A comedy movie wherein Marge Nelson and Dick Nelson (Teri Garr and Jeffrey Jones) are kidnapped by the evil emperor Todd (Jon Lovitz) who is intent on taking Marge as his bride before blowing up the earth. The only thing that made this movie really worth watching is the performances by Jeffrey Jones and Jon Lovitz who are their usual sarcastic and bitter selves. (Ah, what role models!)
Grade: C-
I had another meeting with my financial advisor this morning, that was fun. We're starting to get some of my monthly expenses more in hand and determining how much money I need to invest for retirement while keeping up my current standard of living. Good stuff.
Oh, and
kenket drew this really nice conbadge for me for this year's Anthrocon:
