Seen on Slashdot: Monster.com attacked, user data stolen
The personal data of over a million job seekers was recently stolen from Monster, by way of using compromised recruiter accounts. The BBC has more coverage.
Symantec has a writeup on how this went down.
What's rather shocking is the way I found out, by reading this on Slashdot. Monster.com's press page says absolutely nothing on the matter. This is a concern to me since my personal data is in Monster from my last job hunt 1.5 years ago.
As for my comment about identity theft insurance, many companies, including Allstate, offer Identity Theft Insurance. For about $30 a year, you can be covered against expenses that you incur from identity theft, including attorney's fees, fees to reapply for loans, and lost wages. I think that's worth the cost if you have any sort of a decent credit rating.
