Nov. 4th, 2002 10:36 amI spent most of this weekend at my place, playing with the servers that were donated to SpamCon awhile back. Let me tell you, trying to install Linux on a Compaq Proliant is not a trivial task. ("SMART Array controller not found?! WTF?")
Other than that, I rented some movies this weekend, one of which was Rush, which is about two undercover narcotics agents who end up getting caught in the drug culture. It's a great movie because there is no clear antagonist. It's left up to the viewer to decide who the villian is.
On Friday, I got a piece of snail mail from my ISP, ot.com. Seems that after selling dial-up access since 1994, they decided to get out of the business. As of this morning, we'll be customers of NuNet instead. It should be interesting to see how things pan out with them.
Finally, I installed SpamAssassin on my machine this weekend. It's a good filter. It's almost too good. Out of 47 e-mails that I downloaded this morning, 25 of them were spam. I think this banner sums up my feelings adequately:

Date: 2002-12-16 04:05 pm (UTC)I had a very similar problem installing RedHat on a Compaq Prolaint. Except mine was that RedHat didn't know how to deal with an EISA bus and kinda forgot about the ram. Ah well it will get put out of it's misery one day....but for now a P-Pro 180 system is enough to handle a low traffic Apache server and CVS.
(Makes me kinda wish we had some hardware out there with a nice compliant standard.)
