Heeeeeere's the latest:
UPDATE
After repairing a fiber cut. Verizon has completed its repairs at the DCANet data center and they have determined that there is still yet another problem in the path between the DCANet data center and the Central office. They are working now with the appropriate fiber engineering departments to resolve this problem.
It is our hope that this will be repaired quickly; however, we cannot promise when this will happen. Verizon is refusing us any ETAs.

Date: 2006-07-11 08:47 pm (UTC)And refusing ETAs? Sounds about normal. A lot of NetWorkVirginia circuits travel over Verizon copper or fiber, and we regularly have to fight with VNI to get resolution.

Date: 2006-07-11 08:49 pm (UTC)It occurred to me that since Verizon is also a competitor in the DSL market, it is possible that they may be dragging their feet on purpose in the matter.
So I submitted story ideas to some of the local news agencies that said "Thousands without Internet service in Philadelphia". We'll see what happens. :-)

Date: 2006-07-12 03:38 pm (UTC)Also, pretty much every CO is shared by multiple companies due to FCC regulations (something to do with fair business practises and such) so foot-dragging is not even remotely viable.
And as far as refusing ETRs go, we generally don't even have them ourselves, because the technicians/engineers that are assessing and working on the problems don't bother to tell us.
