Some folks may be aware of the 6-2-1 Rule at furry conventions, which states:

- 6 hours of sleep per day
- 2 meals per day
- 1 shower per day

It is believed that following those rules will help reduce the chances of you being exhausted, catching con crud, or having an "aura" about you that may offend other attendees.

At the most recent Anthrocon, it was explained to me by one DI that their very own Dr. Bob Passovoy has now proposed the following version of the 6-2-1 rule for Anthrocon:

- 6 miles walked per day
- 2 snacks per day
- 1 nap per day

If you are not a member of the DI, do not attempt to follow the new rules. :-)

6-2-1 works well. Really well. Wish more people followed it. Really.

Having been nearly knocked out by wicked funk in the Westin lobby Thrusday evening I started thinking of designs for a fully automated, human sized auto-wash machine.

I learned the hard way at this most recent AC that, unfortunately, the 6 hour part of that rule doesn't work for 6 days straight.

On the 5 hour drive home on Monday, I found that I had trouble staying awake/focused, so I had to pull over at a rest stop and conk out for an hour.

The moral of this story is obvious: [livejournal.com profile] tailen gets to drive home next year.

Knowing I had a ten hour drive back, I intentionally did not stay up late every night and party. Now if I was flying back or was a passenger, this most certainly would have been another story.

I was actually impressed at the *lack* of overwhelming funk at this con. I don't know if it's the wide open spaces that reduce the effect, or if people are at least showering regularly.

As for the two meals per day.... so true. I always end up eating two meals per day when traveling. Never have time for three, and one isn't enough to keep me going. It's not that I feel hungry; I just start to become weak, sleepy and unmotivated.

Uhh, you saw me at the Lawn party. You even called me by name. :)

I forgive you of course, you must run into thousands of folks throughout the con. It was good to see you. :)

I might have drank more than I thought that night...

Of course, I had a fair amount of booze at a prior party:

I think this rule should apply to *any* con, furry or not. XD

I didn't do so well on the 6 part - at least, not if my goal was consecutive hours.

Can I hide a cot or aerobed in ops next year? ;)

I'll check into that. The hotel might have some issues.

It works. Aside fomr being tired I did not get the crud. My rule though is actually the 8-6-3-2-1 though.

8 Drinks
6 Hours Sleep
3 Vitamin tablets (B12)
2 Meals
1 Shower

Gah, I followed the original 6-2-1 rule (well, more like 8-2-1) and I still caught something out there (But I was never exhausted or had an "aura")

Oi the golden rule of food and cleanliness. I called it fan boy radar when i got a whiff of funk it was a blip on my radar. Sadly I may habe un wittingly brought germs to AC my mom was ill before i left for AC and during AC i incubated said germs by Sunday i was sick.. today Im on antibiotics.. Hate all you want but i washed my paws OFTEN at the con And let people know on Sunday i wasn't feeling so great. I dint kno i was ill till later Sunday into Monday morning.. One showe yes o two meals yes Six= 8 hours of sleep yes. washing hands EVERY time you go tot he bathroom and as frequently as possible especially after eating or touching bunch of stuff in dealers room is PRICELESS. I cant begin to tell you how many furries i saw int he bathroom NOT WASH THIER HANDS! Seriously EWWW

Try though I might, I never manage to fulfill the "6" part of that rule. I try! I really do, but the dealer's den opens so early...

I generally lecture new con attendees by the 8-6-2-1 rule: its 6-2-1 with the addition of 8 glasses of water a day. It wasn't *quite* so imperative this con, but anyone who's had to deal with a dehydrated fur will tell you its well worth making the point.

I don't know how the DI survive a entire con on those modified rules.
