Until you get caught with a loaded weapon and hollow point bullets, while selling vacuum cleaners door-to-door... in the middle of winter...

Moral of the story: Uh... don't sell vacuum cleaners in winter?

hardly. Realtors tend to go armed for much the same reasons.

Well, just because it's winter doesn't mean a door to door salesman hibernates. They still have to earn a paycheck. Though in this day and age, they are a dying breed (thank you internet) and I supose there might be more crooks using it for cover than honest salesmen out there.
Depending on what meighborhoods the guy might travel through (assuming honest salesman), I can see having a weapon in the car or on my person might not be a bad thing.
I was surprised by two facts. 1 a litte and 1 a lot. I know that some ammo is illegal, but was unaware that hollowpoints were in NJ. Of course I live no where near NJ so that is not something I need to know. I do know the laws in my own area. Second was the fact that he had handcuffs and that was also apparently illegal. I'd never heard that before. Never even thought to look up the laws in my area. I do own a pair of police issue handcuffs, but they were given to me by an UnderSheriff where I used to live, so I am assuming that at least there it was not illegal to own them.

Eh, who knows. Not having a carry permit certainly didn't help things.

Also, this is the same guy who, some years ago, decided to see if a friend's .45 was loaded. By pointing it at the ground next to his foot and pulling the trigger. It was in fact loaded.

Draw your own conclusions about his clue level. :-P

True. No permit to carry is not bright if you have a weapon. I was unaware of his previous experience with firearms.

What about just don't carry the gun with you?

That would require thought and planning on his part.
