If you...

1. ...owned a restaurant, what kind of food would you serve?

Mostly fruits and vegatables. No, I'm not a vegitarian, but the way society is in my country, they're all about 20 OUNCE BEEF PATTIES! That's totally unhealthy, and there's no way I would be able to compete with that. I'd conventrate on fruit and veggie dishes. Here, eat as much food as you want. You might get a little fat, but at least your arteries won't get clogged up with saturated fat.

2. ...owned a small store, what kind of merchandise would you sell?

Books. Because knowledge is power. Never underestimate the value of a good book.

3. ...wrote a book, what genre would it be?

Non-fiction. Probably something about computers or maybe about business processes.

4. ...ran a school, what would you teach?

I'd try to have a balanced ciricculum with things like art, music, sports, science, and teaching computer skills. I would also want to educate people about the dangers of drugs, and that some drugs are worse than others. ("Smoke as much weed as you want, it'll just make you stupid, but may have long-term effects such as increased risks of cancer. Take just a little cocaine, and your heart may explode!)

I'd also like to offer a class on the safe handling of guns. There are way too many accidents that happen by people handling guns that they "thought were not loaded". Gun safety is pretty straightforward.

5. ...recorded an album, what kind of music would be on it?

Probably heavy metal. Say what you want about it, but I grew up with it so I'm comfortable with it. Heavy metal remixes of video game music would be even cooler.

In other news, I've been idly thinking about getting one of these:

It's only 12 feet long and weighs 3 tons. It'd be fun to have as an alarm clock! It's so powerful that it can turn fog into rain, clearing the sky!

Oh, and some folks mentioned Dihydrogen Monoxide in a previous post. Sadly, some city officials recently bought into this when they learned that dihydrogen monoxide was used to produce foam cups. So they wanted to ban the cups. And these people are elected representatives!

I like Fridays.

several people have done the "water is bad for you" trick :> apparently someone at my school did it a few months ago and actually got people to sign for a petition to ban for it! lol

Video game remixes.

Marijuana / Cancer

I'm getting a bad rep for defending marijuana as vocally as I do, but I have a slight issue with the article you linked to.

An average marijuana cigarette contains 30 nanograms of this carcinogen, compared to 21 nanograms in an average tobacco cigarette (Marijuana and Health, National Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine report,1982).

Of course, here we are talking about cigarettes. Now, a cigarette comprised entirely of marijuana, or a 'blunt' as they are sometimes called, have varying degrees of potency depending on the THC content of the marijuana in question. THC being the active drug in marijuana as nicotine is the active drug in tobacco.

Low grade cannabis buds may have as low as 6% THC. The highest quality buds have been measured with up to 30% THC. On top of that, it is possible to harvest the resin from fresh cannabis plants, with a 40%-50% THC from that alone. (note: The sticky resin of trichomes on the leaves of female cannabis is there to trap pollen from males. That resin is the source of THC.) Even better, an oil preparation of that resin can yield 90% THC.

So first, we have a wide array smokable materials where the active ingredient varies from 6% to 90% content. That right there makes me question the validity of statements made by said researchers.

Furthermore, any habitual smoker of marijuana will tell you that 'blunts' are NOT the prefered method of smoking. Water pipes strip more than 50% of the tar from smoke on average. The 'tar' in smoke is most likely what contains the carcinogen benzopyrene. For those who are truly habitual smokers, there are vaporizers. A vaporizer gently heats the resin without igniting it, turning the liquid THC into a gas, thereby almost completely preventing ANY tar from being inhaled, period.

Since this article doesn't mention the control of the experiment (ie. how much benzopyrene the average person inhales daily without cigarettes) I can't make a claim about how much more benzopyrene one is exposed to when inhaling 99% THC vapors.

I'm sorry, considering the money invested in AIDS patients already, a $90 vaporizer isn't a big investment. And I don't care if this guy is the BEST doctor in the world, it doesn't prevent him from participating in the politically-biased junk science of debunking medicinal marijuana.

Whoa, that was fascinating stuff, thanks for posting it. Clearly, more research is called for.

If you think the dihydrogen monoxide thing is bad: in 1897, the state of Indiana tried legislatively to change the value of pi to 3.2 so that calculations would be easier.

The bill in question, HB 246, passed unanimously in the state house before being postponed indefinitely in committee in the state senate.
