12 hours and counting of no DSL
Jul. 11th, 2006 10:55 amSo, I come home last night to find that my DSL circuit isn't working. I reboot the modem and router, still no luck, can't DHCP an address. I take a look at the modem and note that the DSL light is on, which means I do have an actual link established to the CO on the other end of the wire. Hmm. So I hop on a neighbor's wireless network and look at their network status page:
So... you have a problem which takes out service for thousands of customers, and it takes Verizon 12 hours to actually locate the problem. Wow. Way to go, guys.
Verizon's new motto should be: "Where quality and service are often mentioned"
We are currently experiencing a problem with the Verizon ADSL platform. This afffects all DCANet/Verizon ADSL endusers. DCANet engineers are on site and investigating the cause. We believe it is a problem with Verizon's ATM network. We will follow up with more information as soon as it is available.
UPDATE: Verizon has located the problem at the CO an is dispatching to DCANet's 1016 Delaware Ave. data center. We hope to have this resolved here in the early morning.

Of course, it's not like Verizon also sells DSL service, and they would intentionally stonewall DCANet because they're a competitor. Nope, that would never happen.
